HDTV: Not just great picture and sound, it’s much more than that

Most of us would agree that superior quality of picture and sound are very good reasons to switch to High-definition television (or HDTV) but HDTV has much more to offer.
The width to height ratio of HDTV is much different than that of a regular set. According to the standards of the conventional television system, the width of the picture is divided by the height giving it a ratio of 4:3. HDTV is more advanced with a ratio of 16:9 thus giving it more movie theater style and viewing power.

HDTV has stirred the world of home entertainment simply because of the superior visual clarity and digital sound quality. This is because the broadcasting of HDTV (also known as high-definition television) has a much higher resolution and is more advanced than more traditional television signals (including NTSC, PAL and SECAM). To look back in history, “high-definition television” was also a term used to relate to standards of television that were put in place during the 1930’s to replace the television systems that were more elementary and experimental in nature. Image means everything in the HDTV world.

If you already have cable switching to HDTV is easier

It will be uncomplicated to get your HDTV if you already have digital cable. Many cable companies are now allowing people to switch to a different kind of box which allows them to view HDTV channels. This switch out is sometimes as low as $5 additional per month. If that seems like a lot, you might not think so when you see the quality of the high definition picture which HDTV provides. You will get more of the picture, a wide screen effect, which will make you feel like you are at the movies, and with the right connections, 5.1 surround sound quality or better. Keep in mind that if you already receive digital cable, or a DTV transmission, that does not necessarily mean that you have high definition capabilities on your TV set. However, if you already have digital cable, the chances are that you are only one or two steps away from having HDTV in your very own living room. Here is what you need to know and what you will need to find out from your provider.

HDTV is the only way to go!

High definition television or HDTV is the only way to enjoy broadcasts and movies at home. The picture quality is way superior and more networks are offering programming in HDTV.
There are many advantages to switching to HDTV over keeping traditional analog sets. HDTV offers a brighter, clearer picture, and as it becomes more popular there are more choices available to purchase. In the past, high definition sets were generally large and were more suitable for large home movie theaters with lots of space. Now, the screens are getting smaller, making HDTV a good choice for smaller areas with less space.
